This is something that someone said to me in a discussion last night. I thought about it for a moment and I responded, quite bluntly, "Well, it shouldn't be." She just stared at me like I just told her that rain falls upwards.
But seriously, Faith (whatever that means to you) should be something you can hold on to and manhandle. Something you can question, laugh at, laugh WITH, be annoyed at, be in love with, grow with, grow ALONG with, be frustrated with, be amused at, revel in, revel ON, smack around now and then, be smacked around BY now and then. There should be a familial rough-and-tumble relationship with your Faith, and when the rough-and-tumble is over, there you are, side by side with your Faith. You should be able to count on the fact that no matter what you and your Faith go through, you will BOTH come out the other side. Even if you're both changed, you'll both be there.
Fragile Faith isn't much more than Hope. Not that that's a bad thing, but Hope can be crushed. Faith can't. Sure, it can be CHANGED, but it shouldn't be something you have to handle with kid gloves.
Here endeth the unusually spiritual post.
Fragile - it's Italian for something...
