Tonight was pretty much the same as Day 1. There were alot of people who I was really glad to see (a few of whom didn't get to show up last night). Several people told me I was one of the people they were looking forward to seeing. Someone else told me that while they knew who I was, we didn't hang out in school, but they really wanted to talk to me tonight because of the little bio I put up on classmates.com talking about the cool stuff I do.
It was alot of fun. Decent turnout, and best of all, they didn't have up the "wall of the departed" that they had at the 10 year reunion. I mean, I understand the need to honor the folks who are gone, but last time, their pictures were staring at us from the back of the room all night, and it was kind of creepy.
There was a table with lots of memorabilia on it, including yearbooks from all four years of HS. The interesting thing about our school system back then was that ALL of the 9th graders from all 4 high schools were shipped to ONE CENTRAL LOCATION and spent the whole year together at "Nova." 1500 13 & 14 year olds in one place. Then the High Schools were just 10th to 12th grade. It was this bizarre situation that put swami_bob and I together at the same school for a year, which is cool, considering that we wouldn't actually meet each other face to face until 12 years or so later. I didn't get a year book from that year because I hated 9th grade with the firey hatred of at least 4 or 5 suns. But the book was there, so for shits and giggles I went and looked for swami_bob's photo, and lo-and-behold, the two of us were actually on the same two page spread.
The evening was nice. The food, surprisingly good. The company even better. We all talked about how standoffish everyone still was at the 10 year reunion, but that this one was just so much more comfortable. There was no real "competition" for anything. The people who were there were there because they wanted to reconnect.
So all in all, highly successful weekend. If even a quarter of the folks who want to keep in touch actually do, I'll be happy.
Reunited, and it's kinda good...
