An interesting thing happened this 4th of July -- My camera batteries died, and I didn't have my spares in my bag.
That meant I had to put my camera down and actually BE at the party and socialize.
It may be surprising to some, but I don't do that well. I'm not good at the whole group conversation thing, and I'm constantly worried that people would rather be talking to someone else or listening to someone else talk. Having the camera as my date lets me be at the party, but be constantly on the move, never having to bother any one person for a serious amount of time. And I never have to deal with that awkward "so... we've exhausted all possible conversation topics... now what?" situation.
I had suspected this was the case, but it hadn't been confirmed until Friday.
