664 Miles to Mexico

California is apparently the last state in the Union to number the exits on the highways. I noticed this as we drove home. Exit 664 is Balls Ferry. Yeah, that's the kinda place I grew up. The exit to my folks house is the next exit, but I don't think we were lucky enough to be exit 666... I think it's 667 for Deschutes Road. But I'm not sure.

The trip, on the whole was nice. I spent alot of time like I do EVERY visit, reformatting and reinstalling everything on my parents computers. I did it pretty well this time, although I lost all my mom's favorites cause that's the ONE thing I forgot to back up. DOH! To make it up to her, I did get her scanner and smart card reader working, though, and networked the computers together, and convinced dad to try a firewall program that wouldn't block my mom's computer from accessing most of the freakin internet.

This is probably the first time that I can actually say that I wish the visit had been longer. Our house was quiet except for the BBQ. It was relaxing to be there. I didn't get to see enough of my nephews, though.

I had forgotten just how much I miss being around animals. My folks don't have as many as they USED to, but there are still three dogs who live inside. Nykai and Sherman are both Greyhounds, and Murrey is this... MUTT. He's really funny looking, and he's duck footed, so when he walks fast his legs fly out to the sides a little bit. When he's excited, he prances in place, legs all akimbo. It looks like he's doing some sort of Charleston or something.

Well, needless to say, he's just this WONDERFUL foster dog that my mom has taken in. I hope he becomes a 'real' dog like Sherman did. Yeah, Sherman (in the corner of Murrey's picture) started off as a foster beast too. :)

So now I'm back, and missing the folks already...
